Cork Sports Ability Day March 25th

On Saturday, March 25th the Cork SportsAbility Day 2017 sponsored by Blackwater Motors Volkswagen will take place at the UCC Mardyke Arena from 11am – 3pm. The event was launched recently at the UCC Mardyke Arena by international athletes Alan Dineen (Wheelchair Rugby), Matthew Kearney (Blind Football) and Colm Monaghan (Special Olympics Football). The Cork SportsAbility Day is a showcase event where participants can try a wide range of activities and find information on clubs in their area.

Padraig Healy, Sports Inclusion Disability Officer with Cork Sports Partnership stated “Find Your Sport is the slogan for this year’s event and it is fitting as the event aims to get people of all abilities participating in physical activity. This year’s SportsAbility Day will be bigger & better than ever before with a wide range of come & try sessions taking place including wheelchair rugby, table tennis, archery, badminton, seated volleyball, powerchair football, wall climbing to name just a few. We will also have over 25 information stands from a wide range of clubs & organisations. There will be sensory room on site for any visitors who need some quiet time during the day”.

This year’s event has a number of workshops for visitors to attend, including two Healthy Eating workshops organised by the HSE Health Promotion & Improvement Department.  Also new for 2017 is an Inclusive PE Workshop for teachers and SNA’S, a registration form for both events is available at www.corksports.ie
Cork SportsAbility Week will also be launched on the day by former international goalkeeper Packie Bonner, activities for Cork SportsAbility Week will run from Saturday March 25th – Sunday April 2nd around Cork City and County.

This year’s SportsAbility Day is not to be missed and is suitable for anyone with an interest in sport, bring along the family and join in the activities.
