Formal recognition of Traveller ethnicity

The HSE Cork and Kerry Traveller Health Unit welcomes the announcement that the Irish government  has formally recognised the ethnicity of the Traveller Community.

The recognition of Traveller ethnicity marks a significant milestone for Travellers in Ireland and acknowledges the valuable contribution the Traveller community has made to Irish society.

“Traveller Health –  A National Strategy” developed by the Department of Health and Children, highlights the importance of the recognition of Traveller culture in the planning and provision of Health services.

The HSE Cork & Kerry Traveller Health Unit works in partnership with the local Traveller organisations to support the provision of health services to the Traveller Community and to address to health  inequalities.

We congratulate our partners in the HSE Cork & Kerry Traveller Health Unit: the Traveller  Visibility Group, Cork Traveller Womens Network, Kerry Traveller Health and Community Development project, Travellers of North Cork, West Cork Traveller Centre and the Southern Traveller Health Network.
